Abstract
The objective of this study was to find out proper fruit bagging materials to prevent russet occurring often in ¢¥Whangkeumbae¢¥ pear. Fruits were Bagged 30 days after full bloom with different kinds of bag sources. The incidence of russet and fruit quality were compared among bagging sources. Most of bags prepared by Naju Pear Research Institute (NPRI bags) and Agricultural and Fishery Marketing Corporation (AFMC bags) were maintained in good condition until harvest time. However, newspaper bags (NP bags) and those for Nijisseiki in Japan (NJ bags) were easily broken due to poor durability or the size difference. Russet was severely occurred in fruit without bagging in the final growing stage while those wrapped with NPRI or NJ bags showed excellent appearance in skin color. And scab infection was low in both NPRI and NJ bagged fruit. No difference in quality including fruit weight, firmness and acidity was found between fruit bag sources. However, soluble solid content was higher in non bagged fruit compared to those of bagged ones. Results indicated that both NPRI and NJ bags were effective on the prevention of skin russet in ¢¥Whangkeumbae¢¥ pear.
